Porto Cervo

Porto Cervo

The undisputed capital of the Costa Smeralda, this hamlet in Arzachena is the main tourist hub along the north-eastern coast.

Arising from the intuition of Prince Aga Khan, Porto Cervo offers visitors one of the largest and best-equipped ports in the Mediterranean, along with being home to the famous Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, organiser of the most challenging regattas.

Throughout the summer, you can admire the many luxurious yachts, especially those of the rich and famous. Indeed, it is a continuous alternation of events with the international jet set, with sporting events and other occasions adding a touch of merriment to Porto Cervo each day and night.

Downtown in Porto Cervo, you can relish in the famous promenade and find yourself shopping alongside film and television stars in one of the many shops of the most prestigious brands.

Wander along the narrow streets admiring the window displays, spying the charming balconies built in the typical Costa Smeralda style, before continuing up to the little piazza overlooking the old harbour to enjoy the spectacle of yachts sailing across a landscape framed by beautiful villas.

Absolutely worth a visit is the beautiful church built in the 1960s by the architect Michele Busiri Vici – the Stella Maris that dominates the landscape with its unique vista over the picturesque Porto Cervo marina.

You can also see the Porto Vecchio (Old Port), built in the 1960s by Prince Karim Aga Khan in addition to the Porto Nuovo (New Port) that was constructed in the mid-1980s.

The famous white sandy beaches and crystal-clear water render this magnificent stretch of Costa Smeralda truly unique. Amongst the most famous destinations are the beaches of Caproccioli, Liscia Ruja, Romazzino and the Spiaggia del Principe.
